An evening where craftsmanship meets connectivity

Last night we had the pleasure of attending the SCTE Benelux Dinner in Delft as a proud member of the SCTE ® (the Society for Broadband Professionals) organisation. It was one of those rare occasions where technology and culture felt perfectly aligned.

Set in the historic heart of Delft, just a short walk from the renowned Delft University of Technology, the venue could not have been more fitting. A city shaped by knowledge, engineering and centuries of artisanal precision became the backdrop for a community of engineers, broadband experts and technology consultants.

The evening itself was a beautiful composition: champagne, exquisite food, history, art, conversations and live music. We must admit that Fiorenza felt personally drawn to the many Italian songs (including Neapolitan Tarantella) being performed.

What made the event even more special was the opportunity to visit the Royal Delft factory and witness how Blue Delft pottery pieces are still crafted today. Watching the meticulous hand-painting and the patience required for each piece, I could not help but draw a parallel with our own industry. Whether building resilient broadband infrastructures or painting delicate cobalt patterns on porcelain, excellence depends on precision ( we seem to recall Dr. Anthony Basham making a similar analogy in his speech), heritage, collaboration and the quiet pride of doing things properly.

There was something symbolic about hosting a gathering of Broadband professionals in a place so deeply rooted in craft and history. Innovation does not float in isolation; it grows from tradition, shared knowledge and a strong sense of community.

A sincere thank you to the organisers for bringing us together in such an inspiring and iconic setting. Looking forward to the next community meeting.
